Meeting with the Minister of Transportation and Economic Corridors
Council has requested a meeting with the Minister of Transportation and Economic Corridors, Devin Dreeshen, at the upcoming Rural Municipalities convention from November 4-7, 2024. Discussion topics include the slide on Bricks Hill and advocating for the completion of Highway 986.

Strategic Planning Session
Council discussed plans for the MD of Peace strategic planning session scheduled for September 16 and 17, 2024.

Administrative Policies
Council reviewed and approved updates and amendments to the following administrative policies:

  • ADM-6 Land Acquisition Policy

  • ADM-18 Credit Card Usage Policy

  • ADM-22 Grants, Donations, and Funding Policy

Land Use Bylaw Amendment
Council approved the first reading of Bylaw 8/2024, which redistricts part of NW-33-83-23 W5 from Agriculture to Country Residential. A public hearing will be held on October 8, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. in Council Chambers.

Fourth Quarter Grants, Donations & Funding
Council approved third-quarter funding requests from the Peace River Curling Club and the Resource Center for Suicide Prevention North Branch, both for $1,000 each.

Brownvale Cemetery Memorial Bench
Council approved the placement of a memorial bench in Brownvale Cemetery.

Old McInnis Truck Fill Building
Council directed administration to contact ATCO to deactivate and de-energize electricity at the old McInnis truck fill building and to arrange for its demolition.

STARS Air Ambulance Presentation

Representatives from STARS Air Ambulance provided Council with an update. STARS is a nonprofit organization that provides critical care air medical transport to patients in remote and rural areas, utilizing a fleet of helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft. Their mission is to ensure timely access to life-saving medical care, often in emergencies where ground transport would be impractical or delayed.
