This past weekend on River Country Rising Stars the show was headlined by The Prairie States with their new single “Not So Much No More.” The guys are from Edmonton and formed in 2017 and within a decade have managed to amass countless CMAB awards and nominations as well as a CCMA nomination a couple years ago. The group in comprised of Mat Cardinal, Jeff Dick, Mike Nash, Jay Der and Doc de Groot and started as a cover band before playing their own tunes. The band was “discovered” in Hamilton during Canadian Country Music Week event before the CCMAs by Bobby Wills, yes that Bobby Wills, who was starting up his own label in partnership with Universal Music Canada, Willing Records. Labelmates include past headliners Drew Gregory and Tony Stevens. The band has made a name for themselves in Alberta and are really getting it out there nationally. Included in there recent success was a top 30 hit with “Waiting On You.”

The Prairie States are a band that can be heard fairly regularly on River Country as they continue to put out good songs and this new one is no exception. The song came about when looking for new music after their recent album “Trouble Is” and they fell in love with it believing it’s a “Prairie States song.” That song “Not So Much No More” is an upbeat, fun breakup song, yes apparently they exist in country music.

Check out my conversation with Jeff, a guitarist with the band can be heard below:
