The Little Red River Cree Nation says everyone has been evacuated from the community of Garden River.
Evacuees have gone to John D’or Prairie Horizon Camp, John D’or Prairie School, John D’or Prairie Willow Camp, and hotels in High Level and Peace River.
This is in response to the 41,000 hectare blaze 8 km from highway 58 and 30 km northwest of Garden River.
Concerns over the fire cutting off access along Highway 58 is what triggered the evacuation order.
Firefighters, helicopters and heavy equipment are actively responding to this wildfire.
During a press conference yesterday, Forestry and Parks Minister Todd Loewen said quote “Now, more than ever, it’s crucial that Albertans exercise extreme caution to prevent further human-caused wildfires that place additional strain on our resources and personnel”.
