  1. Petitions of recall are continuing to be in place for High Prairie. Notice was received against Mayor Brian Panasiuk, and Councillors Donna Deynaka and James Waikle.
    The petition was filed back in February to the alleged handling and lack of communication of the sale of the Old Hospital land in town.
  2. Peace River Town Council has officially passed second and third readings of the new Camping bylaw.
    This gives authority for dealing with camping on Town property and allows the RCMP to assist with the removal of individuals or groups camping in public spaces.
  3. The doctor shortage continues in rural Alberta. Fairview has been the hardest hit, as no doctor at the ED of the Health Complex has been a recurring theme.
    However, good news is on the horizon, as physicians are being recruited, and could be here this summer. (Phil Kolodychuk interview on App)
  4. The Town of Valleyview and the MD of Greenview have joined with the Northern Gateway School Division to support the development of a new school in Valleyview.
    The new K-12 school would be located with connections to the Greenview Regional Multiplex.
  5. Premier Danielle Smith has introduced a gate-keeping law that would allow the province to veto any future deal struck between municipalities and the federal government.
    Smith also says the bill acts as a bulwark against Ottawa muscling into fund-federal ideological priorities that run counter to the province’s objectives.
  6. Five Canadian teams are in action in the NHL tonight… Calgary’s in LA, Winnipeg is in Dallas, Montreal is at the Islanders, New Jersey is in Toronto, and Ottawa is in Tampa Bay.
  7. The Toronto Blue Jays have the day off today before starting at three-game weekend set at home to Colorado. The Jays took two of three from Seattle earlier this week.
  8. OJ Simpson passed away yesterday at 76 years of age.
    Simpson won a National Championship in College Football with USC in 1967, the Heisman trophy in 1968 and was the NFL’s MVP in 1973.
  9. Masters Golf tournament tees off today in Augusta Georgia.  Tee-offs delayed due to poor weather.
  10. A mix of sun and cloud is the order of the day in the Northwest today. Highs are in the low teens today, with lows at, or just above freezing tonight.
    The Peace and Mackenzie could see some showers tonight and tomorrow, which will definately help.
