  1. The Fire at Shaftesbury continues to burn. Evacuation Orders and Alerts continue to be in place, including at the Peace River Correctional Center.
    Evacuees are required to register at the Grimshaw Legion, or the office of the MD of Peace.
  2. Todd Loewen, the province’s minister of forestry and parks, says supports from Alberta Wildfire were working through the night last night.
    The fire is officially classified as a “mutual aid” fire by Alberta Wildfire since it’s outside of the Forest Protection Area.
  3. An update on the accident involving a school bus near Valleyview on Monday morning. The Bus driver has been ticketed for failing to proceed when safe.
    Two adults and five children were hospitalized with various injuries, after the crash involved the bus and another vehicle at Hwy 43 and Williamson Park Rd.
  4. The Town of Peace River is officially supporting being a Nuclear host region. At a recent meeting, Council passed the motion of support.
    At this point, no project is in the works for a plant in the area.
  5. The provincial government is working on trying to lower the costs for electricity.
    Affordability and Utilities Minister Nathan Neudorf says legislation is coming to make those costs “more fair and acceptable”.
  6. Premier Danielle Smith says it’s a good idea to have a physician who accused the province of exaggerating COVID-19’s impact on hospitals now lead a review of health data.
    Smith says Dr. Gary Davidson was selected to lead the review because she wants to hear a range of viewpoints, including from those “shouted down in the public sphere.”
  7. The CFL suspended defensive lineman Shawn Lemon indefinitely Wednesday for betting on league games, including one in which he played.
    Lemon, a three-time Grey Cup champion, retired April 10 to cap a career in Canada that spanned 13 seasons.
  8. NHL Playoffs tonight… Game 2 LA at Edmonton, GAme 2 Vegas at Dallas, Game 3 Boston at Toronto.
  9. The Toronto Blue Jays play the third of their four-game set in Kansas City tonight. Yariel Rodriguez starts for the Jays against Alec Marsh.
  10. A mix of sun and cloud and slightly cooler temperatures is this afternoon’s forecast in the Northwest.
    The Peace have a chance of much-needed rain tomorrow, while the Mackenzie will get a rain/snow mix tomorrow as well.
