  1. Last month, High Prairie police responded to gunshots in Atikameg, in which the suspects fled, but were caught up to.
    26 year-old Kelly Blanche Cardinal of Peace River, 24 year-old Jack George Auger of Atikameg, and 22 year-old Kevin Badger of Gift Lake face court dates on Monday.
  2. Big Lakes County and the Swan River First Nation are agreeing on Water services.
    The agreement continues to have the County providing water services to the First Nation, and the First Nation providing wastewater services to the County.
  3. The Provincial Government is investing nearly a million dollars to support community justice initiatives.
    39 grants are being received by organizations, five of which are in Northern Alberta, Specifically, the Woodland Cree First Nation, and the Driftpile Cree Nation.
  4. Many municipalities around the area are helping residents out with Spring Cleaning.
  5. Alberta’s health minister says she’s doubling the mandated funding for women’s health in the province.
    Adriana LaGrange is scheduled to announce $20 million in funding over two years for the Alberta Women’s Health Foundation.
  6. A BC mayor has been censured by city council – stripping him of his travel and lobbying budgets and removing him from city committees – for allegedly distributing a book that questions the history of Indigenous residential schools.
    The Lhtako Dene First Nation brought the issue to the Quesnel city council in March after learning that Mayor Ron Paull’s wife had circulated copies of the book Grave Error: How the Media Misled Us (and the Truth About Residential Schools)
  7. Atikameg, High Level, Fairview, Northern Sunrise County, and Valleyview, among others start their clean-up programs next week.
  8. The Mighty Peace Basketball League will begin play on Sunday. Games will happen at the Mile Zero Multiplex throughout May and June.
    The league is starting with six teams playing in Grimshaw, but Vice-President, Andrew Ostrowerka, says they would like to expand in the future. (Interview on App)
  9. Peewee Football hits the gridiron to satart the 2024 season this weekend. The Peace River Panthers play the Sexsmith Little Rocks on Saturday.

  10. NHL playoffs tonight… Game 6, Vancouver is in Nashville, and Dallas is in Las Vegas. The Canucks and the Stars lead 3-2.
  11. The Toronto Blue Jays start a three-game set in Washington tonight. Yusei Kikuchi starts for the Jays against Patrick Corbin.
  12. Sunshine and Spring-like temperatures are forecasted for the weekend. Digits will be in the mid to high teens for the weekend, with lows around freezing.
    The Big Lakes could see some showers Monday and Tuesday.
