  1. Protesters occupying a camp established on the Woodland Cree First Nation to defy drilling operations on its traditional lands have been ordered to vacate.
    The Nation set up the camp to oppose Obsidian Energy’s expansion plans, citing concerns about earthquakes and lack of consultation.
  2. Fairview RCMP is advising that 46 year-old Willis Robichaud has been located and is safe.
    Robichaud was reported missing in mid-April, but was last heard from in late December, as he was reportedly travelling to Lethbridge.
  3. The Grande Prairie and District Catholic School Division doesn’t need to go the polls, at least for Ward 3 in Fairview.
    Jessica Richard has been acclaimed to the position.
  4. Once again, there is no doctor at the Emergency Department at the Health Complex in Fairview. This shortage is lasting until 7am on Saturday.
    However officials in town are saying physicians have been recruited, and NWP has joined forces with the U of A in their Medicine program, starting in the Fall of 2025.
  5. The Alberta Biodiversity Monitoring Institute found 6.6% of Alberta’s forest burned, disturbing as much forest as the 11 previous years combined.
    Fires consumed much of the Northwest, with the biggest being in Fox Lake, Chateh, and East Prairie.
  6. The stakes have been set for a bet between Vancouver and Edmonton’s mayors on who will win Round 2 of the Stanley Cup playoffs.
    The mayor of the city whose team loses will have to fly the opposing team’s flag at City Hall, wear their rivals’ jersey and make a charitable donation.
    If the Canucks win, the money will go to an organization that helps at-risk participate in sports.
  7. NHL Playoffs tonight… Game 3, the Rangers are in Carolina. New York leads 2-0. Game 2 Colorado is in Dallas. The Avs took the opening game.
  8. Sheldon Keefe has been fired as head coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Leafs went to the second round once in the five-year tenure of Keefe as bench boss.
  9. The Toronto Blue Jays travel back home today to start a three-game set against Minnisota tomorrow.
  10. Lots of sunshine, with the some added suntan lotion is in the forecast for Northwerst Alberta.
    Temps will be in the 20’s and get even warmer tomorrow. Low are comfortable at night in the single-digits.
