  1. National Indigenous Persons Day is today and the Northwest is observing. (Debbie Mineault Interview on App)
    Other observances related to this day is Orange Shirt Day in September, and the apology in the House of Commons in June of 2008.
  2. An Evacuation Alert has been ordered for residents in Zama City. The Alert was put forward by Mackenzie County to be prepared to evacuate on 2-hours notice.
    The wildfire, south-west of the Hamlet, is continuing to grow at a significant pace. The 150-hectare blaze is advancing towards the Chateh Road and Zama Access Road.
  3. Tips from the public are being given credit for putting two people in custody on drug charges in McLennan.
    36 year-old Muhktar Ali of Nampa and a resident of Warburg have been charged. Both have court dates.
  4. There’s just one day left in the leadership race for the Alberta NDP. Party members have until noon tomorrow to cast their ballots to replace Rachel Notley as leader.
    Naheed Nenshi, Kathleen Ganley, Sarah Hoffman and Jodi Calahoo Stonehouse are the four candidates for the leadership.
  5. Alberta’s government says it is “actively exploring” the use of legal option, including a constitutional challenge or the use of the Alberta Sovereignty Act, to push back against federal legislation that will soon become law.
    That legislation is Bill C-59, which would require companies to provide evidence to back up their environmental claims.
  6. The Harmon Valley Amateur Rodeo takes place this weekend at the Ag. Grounds south of Peace River.
  7. The 51st annual Wanham Plowing Match is scheduled for this weekendat the Sports Grounds.
  8. Minor Football happens all weekend at Glenmary School in Peace River. The Panthers host a game on Saturday at 1pm.
    Then the Panthers host the Peewee football Jamboree on Sunday, with the first game at 10am.
  9. Wheatbelt Baseball League this weekend…
    Rycroft plays in Sexsmith tonight. Grande Prairie plays in Peace River and Grimshaw tomorrow. Sexsmith plays in High Prairie on Sunday.
  10. The finals of the Mighty Peace Basketball League goes on Sunday at Mile Zero in Grimshaw. The Ol’ Fellas play against the Warriors.
  11. Game 6 of the Stanley Cup final goes tonight. Florida is in Edmonton, with the Panthers up 3-2.
  12. CFL this weekend… BC in Winnipeg tonight. Edmonton in Toronto tomorrow. Hamilton in Saskatchewan on Sunday.
  13. The Toronto Blue Jays start a three-game weekend series in Cleveland tonight.
    Yariel Rodriguez starts for the Jays against Carlos Carrasco.
  14. Heat warnings are in effect in the Mackenzie, which could get to 32 tomorrow.
    The Peace and Big Lakes will get into the high 20’s, but then everyone cools off and possibly a little wet when Sunday comes.
