  1. HAPPY 157th Birthday Canada on Monday…
  2. Northwestern Polytechnic has two new and one re-appointed members of their Board of Directors from the area.
    Dr. Tyler May of Manning, and Mr. Michael McMann, the Superintendant of the Fort Vermilion School Division are the newest members of the Board.
    Ms. Heather Kerschbaumer of Fairview has been re-appointed to the board, and will all serve three-year terms.
  3. The beginning and the end of the July 1st long weekend will definately be busy with extra traffic on the highways.
    Extra patrols are scheduled to be out and about making sure that everyone is safe. Also officers are expected to be around many high pedestrian areas.
  4. The July long weekend is regarded as the official start to the summer season, as many people get away for relaxation.
    Campgrounds and recreation areas are expected to be busy during the season, but officials are still worried about the potential for fires.
    Despite the fair amount of rain in recent weeks, the potential is still present for things to flare up, even if people are displaying fireworks for Canada’s 157th Birthday.
  5. People in Alberta are being invited to have their say on improving recreation and conservation in Alberta’s provincial parks.

  6. The Canada Day long weekend begins at the end of the day today and lots of events are happening.
    Authorities are making sure everyone is safe, as extra personel will be out and about. Events, celebrations, and fellowship will be taking place at many venues across Northwestern Alberta.
  7. Wheatbelt Baseball League this weekend… Rycroft plays in Peace River tonight. Manning plays in High Prairie tomorrow.
  8. The Toronto Blue Jays continue their four-game set at Roger Center tonight against the Yankees. Yusei Kikuchi takes the mound for the Jays against Marcus Stroman.
  9. CFL this weekend… Montreal plays in Toronto tonight. Winnipeg plays in Calgary tomorrow, and Hamilton plays in Ottawa on Sunday.
  10. The first round the NHL Entry Draft goes tonight in Las Vegas, with San Jose having the first pick.
    With the Canadian teams, Montreal is 5th, Ottawa is 7th, Calgary is 9th, Toronto is 23rd, Winnipeg and Edmonton don’t pick until the second round, and Vancouver’s first pick is at the end of the third round.
  11. Weather-wise, skies are going to be beautiful this long weekend.
    Sunshine with temperatures in the mid to high 20’s are forecasted, with overnight lows maybe a little on the warm side, in the low to mid teens.
    Things might cool down when we head back to work on Tuesday.
