  1. One person has died in a motor vehicle collision, north of La Crete. Fort Vermilion RCMP say on Friday morning, the collision happened on Highway 697.
    Reports indicate a pick-up and an SUV hit head-on, where a 31 year-old man from La Crete was killed.
    A 43 year-old man driving the truck was transported to hospital with serious injuries.
  2. Trial dates have been set for a murder case in Driftpile. May 26 is the start date for Starr Sasakamoose Jr. to stand trial in Peace River.
    He’s accused in the death of his father, Starr Sasakamoose Sr in April of 2023.
  3. A guilty plea has been forwarded in the case of the Grouard Church fire. Gerald Capot made the plea to a charge of arson, with his sentence being given next February.
    Capot and Kenneth Ferguson were arrested after the 102 year-old St. Bernard Catholic Church went up in flames in May of 2023.
  4. A man from Grimshaw has been given a little less than a year in jail of theft and possession of stolen property charges.
    Gessi Tywon James Larose has served 228 out of the 345 days in the case. RCMP report suspicious transactions happened involving fuel to the tune of over $20,000.
  5. Court dates are set for two men on drug possession charges in the MD of Smoky River. The trial against the two from Nampa and Warburg will be next April in Peace River.
    In June, RCMP in McLennan found a stolen vehicle stuck in a field, and a search found drugs, weapons, ammunition and stolen property.

  7. Canada’s inflation rate reached the central bank’s 2% target in August, fuelling hopes for a 50-basis-point interest rate cut next month.
    The consumer price index posted its smallest increase since February 2021 and the closely watched core price measures also cooled to their lowest levels in 40 months.
  8. The NPHL has expanded back to High Prairie. The league has announced the Regals are coming back, thus the League expanding to nine teams for 2025.
    The Regals are a 13-time league champion, and won the Campbell Cup last in 1989, but last played in the League in 2019. The NPHL is expected to release a League schedule tomorrow.
  9. The Saskatchewan Roughriders announced the passing of Ben Fairbrother – who was killed on Friday in a motorcycle crash in Alberta’s capital. He was 51.
  10. The Toronto Blue Jays start a three-game set in Texas tonight. Chris Bassitt is expected to start again Nathan Eovaldi.
  11. A mix of sun and cloud is forecasted for this afternoon in the Northwest. Highs today are again in the high teens to the low 20’s, with lows tonight around 7 or 8 degrees.
    Showers are expected overnight tonight in the Mackenzie. Tomorrow will be a decent day, but the numbers will start cooling off a little before the weekend.
