  1. Town Council in Peace River has passed first reading to the Utility Rates Bylaw. The bylaw targets full cost recovery to water and sewer.
    That would mean water rates are proposed to rise by nearly 10% per year, and sewer rates would go up by just over 10% per year for the next five years.
  2. They seemed to be a pest to people outdoors this past summer, and was true in honey production as well.

  3. Harvest is continuing at a fast pace in Alberta and specifically in the Northwest.
    Provincially, the job is 63% complete, which is for that 25 percentage points of the 10-year average. In the Peace region, Harvest is now half done.
  4. Alberta’s fall respiratory virus immunization program, including COVID-19 vaccines, is expected to begin in mid-October.
    However, the timeline of when people can roll up their sleeves to get their shot is up to the provinces and territories.
  5. The provincial government announced it would assemble a pool of Albertans permitting them to assist in selective hunts for “problem” elk and grizzly bears.
    So far, 30 Albertans have been selected for a shortlist – 10 each in the north, south and central regions of the province.
  6. The teepee outside of the Lac La Biche RCMP detachment, a gift from the local Beaver Lake Cree Nation, was burned on Monday
    RCMP members at the detachment used fire extinguishers to help firefighters put out the blaze.
  7. Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre said during a U.S. congressional hearing on Tuesday that he has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease.
  8. The Toronto Blue Jays continue their three-game set at home to Boston tonight. Bowden Francis starts for the Jays against Brayan Bello.
  9. NHL commissioner Gary Bettman has shut down rumours that the league has started the process of expanding to 34 teams.
    Reports have surfaced over the past week that Houston and Atlanta could soon be home to new teams, which Bettman has said is “categorically wrong”.
  10. A mix of sun and cloud is forecasted for this afternoon in the Northwest, with pleasent temperatures.
    Highs this afternoon are around 20 degrees, with lows tonight just below 10. Conditions will slowly diminish, as the week winds down.
