  1. Conseil Scolaire du Nord-Ouest is in search of a new Executive Director. Brigitte Kropielnicki has announced her retirement, as of the end of the 2025 school year.
    Kropielnicki gave over 30 years to Francophone education in Alberta, becoming Executive Director in 2015.
    Kropielnicki was also key in the development of Ecole Quatre-Vents in Peace River.
  2. Birch Hills County has two nominees that have come forward for a vancant council position.
    Tim Chandonnet and Margaret Mesher have let their names stand for the Ward 6 Council seat. A by-election is Tuesday October 15th at the Eaglesham Centennial Hall.
  3. RCMP and the ALERT team have busted a firearms operation in Grande Prairie, and it’s landed charges against two people.
    The charges against 40 year-old Tasha Lanz and 42 year-old Denai Lanz include B&E and possession of restricted and loaded firearms.
  4. While more money is being put into building schools in Alberta, critics says that there’s other problems that need addressing.
    The NDP’s Shadow Minister for Education, Amanda Chapman, says more staff and teachers will be needed in these new schools as well. (Interview on App)
  5. Municipal leaders are calling for the provincial government to reverse its plan to ban vote counting machines, saying it’s more costly and time consuming to count by hand.
    However, Premier Danielle Smith says that electronic tabulators have failed to produce faster results and confidence in them.
  6. Maggie Smith, who won an Oscar for 1969 film “The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie” and gained new fans in ” Downton Abbey” and Professor Minerva McGonagall in the Harry Potter films, died Friday. She was 89.
  7. Local Football action and a program fundraiser is happening on Saturday in Peace River.
    The Bantams take the field first, as the Grande Prairie Norsemen play the Prospectors, with the kickoff at 11am.
    The seniors take the field later in the afternoon as the High Prairie Renegades play the Peace River Pioneers, with the kickoff at 4pm.

  9. NJHL this weekend… The regular season begins with the High Prairie Red Wings playing tonight at home to Gibbons, and tomorrow in Edson.
  10. AJHL this weekend… The AJHL Showcase continues in Calgary with the Grande Prairie Storm playing this afternoon against Canmore.
  11. Week 17 of the CFL season starts today with Edmonton at Winnipeg and Hamilton at BC. Ottawa is in Saskatchewan and Montreal is in Toronto tomorrow.
  12. The Toronto Blue Jays start their final series of the season tonight at home to Miami. Jose Berrios starts for the Jays against Adam Oller.
