– The Little Red River Cree Nation says everyone has been evacuated from the community of Garden River. Many are staying at hotels in High Level and Peace River or support camps in John D’or Prairie.
– The Starr Sasakamoose case in Drifpile will go to court in May of next year. Sasakamoose Jr. is facing charges related to the death of Sasakamoose Sr., who was a councilor for the Dritpile Cree Nation.
– Frank Besinger is the new interim CAO for the Town of High Level. He is being brought on in a temporary role, bridging a gap between former Interim CAO Ron Leaf and Council’s ongoing recruiting efforts to find a permanent CAO.
– Alberta Education is planning more numeracy and literacy test for elementary school students. The Alberta Teachers’ Association says students should be getting more support, not more tests.
– In the Wheatbelt Baseball League playoffs, Rycroft defeated Grande Prairie 7-1 in game one of their series. Game two is in Grande Prairie on Tuesday.
– MLB, the Toronto Blue Jays face the Arizona Diamondbacks this weekend ahead of the All-Star Break. Trade rumours are surrounding several Jays players as they’re falling out of the playoff race.
– CFL, Toronto beat Montreal 37-18 last night. The other games this weekend have Calgary in Winnipeg tonight, Saskatchewan at BC on Saturday and Edmonton hosting Ottawa on Sunday.
